West York Wrestling
DL - I can't believe it's your senior year and you are back at school. How did
your summer go?
BR - My summer was good! I would have loved to have made the trip to Fargo
this year, but I also enjoyed some time off.

DL - Wrestling is now a year-round sport. What did you do during the off-season
to get ready for the upcoming tough AAA schedule?
BR - Over the summer, I wrestled with Trey Duncan and Brian Polashuk from
Spring Grove. I also lifted in the weight room at West York - three days a week.
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - I believe that wrestling is truly one of the toughest sports to compete in. It
appears you have a great support group in your family! How do your parents
contribute to your success?
BR - My parents tape all of my matches so I can review them later. They buy
EVERYTHING I need - even though I am still wearing the same headgear from
7th grade! They attend all of my matches and give constructive criticism, but I
don't always listen.
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - Stretch Goals are something that successful athletes set as an incentive
to train hard each and every day. What are some of your goals for this season?
BR - My goal is to be undefeated in all dual meets and season tournaments.
Also, in the post-season, to place at PIAA States!
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - In 2008, you won the PAWF State Wrestling Greco-Roman title and placed
3rd in the Freestyle Division, earning a trip to Fargo, ND where you went 4-2 in
Greco and 1-2 in Freestyle. You just missed being an All-American by one close
match in the Cadet Greco Division. This year you didn't qualify for Fargo, as you
ran into the likes of Dylan Alton, Colin Shober, Jake O'Hara and Cody Barrick! How
did you feel after realizing you wouldn't be making the trip back to Fargo, ND?
BR - I was disappointed, but I knew going into it that I would have some very
tough matches. In the long run, I was proud of the way I performed.
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - What was your best wrestling memory from last year and what was your
greatest disappointment?
BR - My greatest memory was beating Billy Penberth of Governor Mifflin (3-1 ot)
at the Governor Mifflin Tournament to place third. My greatest disappointment
was not making it to States, which was a goal of mine last year.
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - At the South Central AAA Regional Tournament, you lost your first match, then
won four straight matches to get into the consolation championship match - a
huge accomplishment, but what a tough road! What was your thought process
after that initial match and what did you learn from that experience?
BR - I was nervous for that first match. After that, I calmed down and focused on
the goal of placing third. I learned to take things one match at a time.
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - What does Billy Randt like to do when he is not training?
BR - Play basketball with my friends (even though no wrestler should ever
admit that!)
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - You have developed a pretty good alumni following and are on track to be added
to the West York Wrestling Record Book as part of the "Career Overall Winning %" list,
and it looks like a nice list to be on! Have you looked back and read about the rich
tradition of West York Wrestling that is now 75 years old this coming season?
BR - Yes, I visit the alumni website daily. I hope to be listed with the other great
wrestlers from West York.
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - I know former West York Wrestling Coach John T. Toggas has been following
your mat career closely and has spoken with you on numerous occasions. How does
it feel to have a "National Hall of Fame" Coach taking a keen interest in your career
at West York High School?
BR - I feel honored to have someone like John T. Toggas give me advice. I was glad to see him (and his wife Mary Jane) at the SC AAA Regionals at Hershey. I received the nicest compliments in a card from the Toggas's afterwards. It is inspiring to me, and it makes me want to be the best I can be.
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - Do you plan to attend college and continue wrestling at the next level?
BR - Yes. I was really impressed with Lock Haven University. After I take the SAT's
in November, I am going to apply there.
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - Practice starts on November 20th... your thoughts on your West York Wrestling
team and the upcoming 2009-10 season?
BR - We have a new assistant this year who I am really looking forward to working with.
Most of the team has been lifting during the off-season. That should benefit us in the
dual matches this year.
▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪ ▪
DL - Billy, thank you and the best of luck this upcoming 2009-10 mat season!
From the entire West York Wrestling Alumni Community - we wish you the very best
and we are extremely proud of your accomplishments!
